Our Story at Twelve Nunns plant nursery begins in a village called Harvington in the Vale of Evesham where the Nunn family lived for 30 years. In that time Hugh and Liz Nunn developed a thriving specialist wholesale nursery there. They built an enviable reputation for growing quality plants for garden centres. In the years running up to their retirement in 2015 they focused on propagating Helleborus x hybridus and developed the ‘Harvington Hellebores®’ range along with breeding Erythronium, Trillium and Roscoea.
Their younger daughter Penny established a plant nursery in South Lincolnshire in 2012 and over the following years the breeding stock plants from Harvington were moved to the new nursery. Penny’s mothers maiden name was Twelves and so the two family names were combined to form ‘Twelve Nunns’.
The prefix ‘Harvington’ is associated with the plants bred and selected as the very best of their kind by Hugh Nunn in Harvington. These are now propagated by Penny and the team on the Twelve Nunns nursery. So if you see a plant with Harvington in its name, you can be sure that it is from our nursery.
We are proud to say that we still propagate and therefore originate every single plant we sell.
